This SBI Group Chief Economic Advisor opening is a niche executive-level banking recruitment, not a general economist vacancy with broad-fit eligibility. The Bank has advertised 1 contractual post, the official CTC can go up to Rs 2 crore annually, and online applications are open from 13 April 2026 to 04 May 2026. If your profile combines serious economics credentials with institutional decision-support experience, this is worth reading carefully; otherwise, it is easy to overestimate your fit just because the role title sounds prestigious.

Read this if: you are a senior economist with deep work in macroeconomics, financial economics, econometrics, banking strategy, or institutional economic research, and you can support that with serious post-qualification experience in a bank, financial institution, reputed corporate organization, or economics teaching role.
You may skip this if: your profile is early-career, largely non-economics, or not backed by strong evidence of economist-level work. This is an executive-grade strategic role, and the minimum 15-year experience condition is a real filter, not a soft preference.
| Post | Vacancies | Qualification | Experience | Age | Salary |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Group Chief Economic Advisor | 1 | Master’s degree in Economics with specialization in Monetary / Financial Economics or Econometrics; Doctorate in Money / Banking / International Finance preferred | Minimum 15 years as Economist in a commercial bank, financial institution, reputed corporate organization, or as Lecturer / Professor in Economics, or combined experience | 55 to 62 years | Up to Rs 2 crore annual CTC |
Group Chief Economic Advisor: SBI positions this as the Bank’s principal economic expert and the head of its Economic Research Department at Corporate Centre, Mumbai. The job profile covers macroeconomic analysis, monetary and fiscal assessment, internal outlook reports, support to business strategy, treasury and risk functions, and representation in economic forums where required.
In plain English, this is not just a research title. It is a top-level institutional economics role where communication quality, judgment, and the ability to translate economics into internal strategy matter as much as academic strength.

The official annual CTC range goes up to Rs 2.00 crore. SBI also states that the final CTC is negotiable depending on experience, current emoluments, and place of posting. The notified salary structure is 90% fixed pay and 10% variable pay, with annual increment from the second year onward of up to 10% subject to performance.
The contract period is 3 years and may be renewed for a further 2 years at SBI’s discretion, taking the total possible engagement up to 5 years. This is a high-value role, but its real appeal is not just the headline CTC. It is strongest for candidates who already operate at policy-facing or senior institutional economics level and want a major banking-side platform.
The official notification also says that if a selected candidate does not agree to the negotiated compensation, SBI may treat it as exit from the process and move to the next candidate in order of merit.
The notice is unusually flexible on experience proof and allows multiple documentary routes, including employer certificates, appraisal letters, appointment and relieving letters, offer letter with IT returns, or other authentic evidence. That makes documentary quality especially important.
The last date to apply online and pay the fee is 04 May 2026.
